Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Forestry Commission, Eric Kevin Elikem Kotoko, has said President John Dramani Mahama has been delivering on the promises he made to Ghanaians to vote him into power.

Describing governance as a venture that requires decisive leadership to put the right things together to make things work, Kotoko says President Mahama has been able to marshal the appropriate tools to steer his administration to deliver for Ghanaians.

During a discussion on TV3’s BigIssue segment on the NewDay morning show on Monday, October 6, 2025, he said President Mahama’s experience of having been President before has given him the opportunity to do things better, including areas where he didn’t perform well during his earlier term.

“Governance itself is no joke, but it requires decisive leaders and leadership that knows what to assemble to constitute that government. I must say that President Mahama, with hindsight and from the experience of having been a former President, sat back for eight years to witness the rot that you and I were privileged to see. As a result, he became best placed as President now to do things right and even improve on the things he felt he didn’t get right the first time around,” he stated.

He added that those speaking ill of the current administration might be doing so just because they have to criticise, and not because they may be raising genuine concerns.

The Forestry Commission Deputy CEO maintained that the President is meeting the expectations of Ghanaians, as contained in the manifesto the party presented to the citizenry prior to the elections.

“So it comes as no surprise to many of us, except for critics who may not have anything to say but just need to criticise, who still want to say something against President Mahama and his government.

“Right from Day One, he’s been walking the talk. He’s making sure that he’s not only delivering on the deliverables, meeting the expectations of Ghanaians, but also delivering according to what is contained in the NDC Manifesto blueprint,” he maintained.

President Mahama’s second term has focused on economic recovery, infrastructure development, job creation, and improving public services.

While acknowledging challenges in fighting illegal mining, ‘galamsey’, Kotoko said the President remains committed to winning the fight with the right instruments in place.

The administration’s success will depend on effective policy implementation, addressing debt challenges, and tackling galamsey.
