The Ashanti Regional Director of Special Duties for the NDC, Fuseini Donkor, has reiterated President Mahama’s resolve to perform to the expectation of the citizenry.
He says the overwhelming victory given the party by Ghanaians at the December 2024 polls shows the enormity of the responsibility on the new administration, expressing his certainty that the President cannot afford to disappoint.
He says the President “doesn’t want to be listening to excuses because Ghanaians don’t have the patience now to be listening to excuses.”
Fuseini, a former District Chief Executive for Sekyere Afram Plains in the Ashanti region, was speaking on the cheers given to the President of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traore, when he came to Ghana, despite being a coup leader.
During his visit to Ghana for the inauguration of President Mahama on Tuesday, January 07, 2025, Ibrahim Traore, in his military uniform and his side pistol, along with his entourage of military escort, had the loudest cheers from the gathering.
Some experts have said the scene is a depiction of the acceptance of Traore’s work, irrespective of how he came to power.
During his comments on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Fuseini said the manner Traore was welcomed in Ghana shows the increasing lost of trust in democracy due to the failure of democratically elected governments over the years.
He therefore indicated that President Mahama, despite the huge mess created by the previous administration, has no excuse to fail Ghanaians. Donkor explained that the President will fulfill his mandate to the expectations of the people to justify the power given to him without making any excuses.
“People were cheering Traore because the people think he is making the right decisions. Why are Ghanaians celebrating a coup maker? Mahama is aware that we can’t afford to fail. We can’t be explaining,” he said.
He cited some key decisions the President has made so far, including the shortage of food for students in schools where he ordered that the schools should be served with the food stored by the Ghana National Buffer Company.
Donkor also highlighted the President’s negotiation with power producers at the time when they assumed office and the country’s energy sector was in crisis. “All that is needed is that the kids have food to eat. We don’t have gas. As the talking was ongoing, he was making agreement to bring gas”
“When you’re afar, you’ll see that Nana Addo left a hole but getting closer makes you appreciate the whole proper and that’s the situation we are facing now and President Mahama doesn’t want to make excuses,” he added.
He called on all appointees and would be appointees to listen to concerns from Ghanaians and not be adamant like the previous administration did which cost them the election massively.
He concluded that Mahama has the needed majority to do whatever he wants to do without distraction, something he indicated that they will capitalise on to solve the mess created by the previous government.
“God saw it and gave him the needed majority in Parliament to make the right decisions he wants to make. We’ll fix their mess because that’s what we were voted for and we don’t have any excuse. So those chosen so far should get to work as soon as people and we should listen to Ghanaians,” he averred.
