Martin Alamisi Burns Kaiser Amidu, Ghana’s former Special Prosecutor, has outlined his reasons for throwing his support behind the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) John Dramani Mahama, ahead of Saturday’s polls.
He says his support stems from his assessment of the two candidates from the two main political parties, making him conclude that Ghana stands a better chance to progress if Mahama leads in the next four years.
According to Ghana’s former Attorney-General, although John Mahama does not have it all in terms of governancce, he is far better than Dr. Bawumia.
In his latest epistle released Wednesday, December 03, 2024, Martin Amidu, indicated that the Vice President is a “clone and poodle” of President Akufo-Addo, making him unfit to govern on his own.
To him, John Mahama, if he becomes President, will not be a stooge of anybody to be controlled around.
He stated that voting for Bawumia will help the current administration to escape accountability, the reason Ghana needs someone like John Mahama who with his experience as a former President, will hold the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia leadership accountable for the “economic mess” it has created the past 8 years.
“John Dramani Mahama is not a saint, but he is nobody’s poodle. He has the experience as a former President to audit the mess the Nana Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government will leave behind,” he stated.
Mr. Amidu added that Bawumia is not capable of instilling accountability and voting for him will be a continuation of the current administration.
“Ghana needs a President from one of the two dominant political parties who can audit the economic mess the Nana Akufo-Addo/Bawumia inept government is going to leave behind.
“I have demonstrated herein before that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a clone and poodle of the incumbent President and is incapable of doing such an audit. With Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, it is the same old wine in a new bottle! We may as well put lipstick on a pig, as the saying goes,” portions of his write up contained.
Despite having issues with the former President, Amidu insisted he is the best bet to probe what is happening at the moment.
“I have had problems with John Dramani Mahama in the past which are documented on my website. The constitutional situation on our hands, however, demands pragmatism to ensure probity and accountability after an eight year tenure of government,” Amidu added.
