President John Mahama has announced a 19-member Cabinet to assist him govern the country. 

The composition of the Cabinet was announced by the Spokesperson of the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on February 20.

This is pursuant to Article 76 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, “There shall be a Cabinet which shall consist of the President, the Vice-President and not less than ten and not more than nineteen Ministers of State.

Article 76 (2) specified the role of Cabinet, “The Cabinet shall assist the President in the determination of general policy of the Government.”

Briefing newsmen after the maiden meeting, Mr Kwakye Ofosu said the ministers in charge of security have given the country a clean bill.

“Ghana is safe. Security is strong, even though threats exist. The security chiefs (Defense, Interior and Security Coordinator) assured that Ghana has the potential to avert any situation,” he said.

According to him, the Presidential Adviser on 24-hour economy, Goosie Tanoh, briefed Cabinet on preparations towards a full rollout of the initiative.

“Ghana is on course for a full rollout. 24-hour Secretariat will soon brief the country on the roadmap,” Mr Ofosu said.

Touching on the economy, he said “Minister of finance briefed Cabinet on Ghana’s economy. Situation is dire, numbers are worse than we had known in the period of elections. However, managers of economy are confident of proposals to revive economy.”

Mr Kwakye Ofosu added that President Mahama will deliver the State of the Nation Address soon and “he will reveal current economic state and the way forward.”

Meanwhile the Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson will also present the first budget of the government on March 11 to indicate policies and programmes to revive economy.
