Ransford Edward Van Gyampo, a Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, has been appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority.

He takes over from Kwesi Baffour Sarpong who was appointed by former President William Kwaku Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Gyampo is expected to transform the sector with his experience in governance and public administration having earned the respect of many as a seasoned political analyst who has professed many solutions to the challenges that have confronted governments over the years.

Hails from Saltpond, a fishing community in the Central region, Prof. Gyampo was born on 31st March 1977, and has carved a distinguished career in academia, governance, and public policy, culminating in his recent appointment as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority.

He is a Professor of Political Science and Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana, with two decades of teaching and research experience.

He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana, complemented by advanced studies at Tufts University in Boston, USA.

His academic focus spans governance, leadership, democratic development in Ghana and Africa, youth empowerment, natural resource management, electoral studies, maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea and building resilient peace in Africa.

A visiting scholar at the Department of Government and International Relations at the University of South Florida and a visiting Professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Bristol, Prof. Gyampo has made significant contributions to global scholarship.

Before his current academic role, he dedicated 14 years to the Governance Unit of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Ghana), where he rose from Research Assistant to Senior Research Fellow.

During his tenure, he spearheaded critical socio-economic and governance research projects, providing evidence-based policy recommendations to address Ghana’s most pressing challenges.

Through his research and thought leadership, Prof. Gyampo has shaped national discourse, leveraging roundtables and media platforms to influence policy and governance reforms.

He is a regular panelist on Ghana’s number one weekend political talkshow, The KeyPoints, hosted by Alfred Ocansey on TV3.
