John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured chiefs and residents of the Central Region that his next administration will revive the Komenda Sugar Factory if elected.

The Komenda Sugar Development Company Limited also known as the Komenda Sugar Factory was established in 1964. Its operations grounded to a halt in the early 1990s due to poor management and technical issues.

It was inaugurated by the erstwhile Mahama administration in 2016 with a loan facility of 35 million dollars from an Indian EXIM Bank.

Introducing his running mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, to the Central Regional House of Chiefs Tuesday, July 31, 2024, John Mahama stated that: “And I can assure Nananom and our father from Komenda that when we come, we shall do everything in our power to operationalise the Komenda Sugar Factory.”

John Mahama touted the incorruptible character of his running mate, citing her years of experience in public office as her trump card for the office of the Vice Presidency.

According to him, a Mahama-Jane Opoku-Agyemang partnership will be an envy to many on the continent.

“Prof. Naana Jane is a leader who possesses high moral values, she is incorruptible and all through her service to Ghana has remained committed and patriotic.

“She comes with wisdom, tact, passion, integrity and decades of experience to the Vice Presidential office,” he extolled.

On her part, John Mahama’s running mate, Prof. Opoku Agyemang, expressed joy in the passage of the Affirmative Action Bill, saying the implementation should be a clarion responsibility of all.

She asked that measures be put in place to ameliorate any challenges that will affect the implementation of the Bill.

“Passing the bill and implementing it are two different things. Now it’s been passed. We want 30% who are pushing us back. We all know. The men know, the women know so we need to look at what is it that might want the implementation of the Affirmative Action Bill not as smooth and as successful as it ought to be,” she indicated.
