President John Dramani Mahama has reassigned Edward Bawa to become Group CEO of the nation’s leading indigenous oil marketing company, GOIL.
Bawa was reassigned from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), where he was recently appointed as Acting Chief Executive Officer.
He replaced Joseph Dadzie at GNPC on January 16, 2025, but has now been asked to lead GOIL as its GCEO.

It is, however, unclear, the reasons behind his reassignment barely a month into his appointment to GNPC.
The position of GNPC CEO now remains vacant until a subsequent announcement is made by the President.
GOIL is a major player in Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry, and has played a key role in the country’s energy security and economic growth.
Bawa, prior to his appointment to GNPC, was the Member of Parliament for Bongo between 2017 and 2025 where he served on the Mines and Energy, as well as the Communication Committees of Parliament.
Edward Bawa’s expertise extends beyond his political career. He previously served as a Communications Consultant for the World Bank’s Oil and Gas Capacity Building Project at the Ministry of Energy.
There, he led public advocacy efforts and stakeholder engagement for key energy initiatives in Ghana. His credentials also include certifications in petroleum revenue management, upstream agreements, and energy commercialization, solidifying his extensive knowledge of the energy sector.
