President John Dramani Mahama has set up an eight-member committee to spearhead the National Education Forum meant to reform Ghana’s education sector.
A statement from the presidency issued Sunday, February 02, 2025, and signed by the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says the committee has been given two weeks to submit its report.
It will be chaired by a former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor George K. T. Oduro, with Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Samuel Awuku, Ph.D., and Professor Smile Dzisi as members.
The remaining members are Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.
The committee has been tasked to develop a guiding theme, identify stakeholders in the education sector and propose an agenda with time allocations as part of its Terms of Reference (TOR).
The committee is also tasked with selecting a venue and date for the forum, setting up a secretariat, and preparing a budget and compile a comprehensive report that details the findings of the forum and its recommendations.
A draft national education policy framework and an action plan for implementing reforms are expected within three weeks of the forum’s conclusion.
The National Education Forum is a 2024 campaign promise made by John Mahama which aims to solicit ideas from the public on how to better Ghana’s education sector, particularly on the implementation of the free senior high school policy whose implementation by the previous government has been abysmal with poor feeding, poor accommodation and huge debts despite approval of budgets by Parliament to fund the policy since 2017.
