President John Dramani Mahama has established the need to reform the Information Services Department (ISD) to enhance information flow to the public.

The President says the model of channeling information to the public by the ISD is outdated, highlighting the need to inculcate modern technology to that effect.

According to Mahama, this has necessitated the need to bring the ISD to the Office of the President and equip it with modern means of communication to relay activities of the government to the public.

The President, during his remarks at a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff House by the Institute of Public Relations Wednesday, January 22, 2025, said a synergy can be created for the ISD and the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to better the flow of information to the public.

He told his visitors that the synergy will be left in their care to ensure Ghanaians are duly served in terms of information flow.

“One of the things that remain to be done is to bring the Information Services Department (ISD) under the presidency and modernise that organisation from a Civil Service organisation to a modern organisation that gives guaranteed information flow to the public in respect of whatever government is doing.

“The days of cinema vans is gone, now we have all kinds of new instruments of communication. That department must be reformed. And so you can bet that consultancy is in your hands to see how we restructure ISD, Ghana News Agency (GNA).

“I think that if we create a certain synergy, modernise this organisation, they’ll set a good platform for government’s communication with the public in terms of making as much information available as possible,” he stated.
