President John Dramani Mahama will today, Thursday, April 30, 2026, get a firsthand briefing on the impact of the recent fire outbreak at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) Substation in Akosombo.
Over 1,000 megawatts of power from the Akosombo Dam was affected, disrupting supply and contributing to recent outages nationwide.
The President’s visit is expected to provide an assessment of the situation, as the government says efforts are being put in place to fully restore the power supply to citizens.
The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, has said four power generation units at the dam have been successfully brought into operation so far, with the remaining expected to be fully recovered this week.
The President’s tour will also allow for briefings from technical teams on ongoing repair works and measures being put in place to prevent future disruptions within the power transmission system.
