Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National First Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has assured that the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, will abide by the Asantehene’s blueprint for the region’s development.

The former Kumasi Mayor and former Ashanti Regional Minister disclosed that the President-elect has kept a copy of the development document and promises to use same as guide.

Mr. Sarpong made the comments at a visit to the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi Sunday, December 08, 2024, during the last Akwasidae in the year on the Asante calendar.

He expressed appreciation on behalf of John Mahama to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and commended him for the guidance he offered him during the electioneering process.

Dr. Sarpong added that the Asantehene’s counsel contributed to the victory of John Mahama in the elections.

Dr Sarpong observed that the NDC was grateful to have the Asantehene pour his deep thinking pieces of advice to them and would ensure they visit him often for same.

“Otumfuo, I stand here on behalf of the President-elect to thank you immensely for your guidance and advice to the NDC party and I know it was the reason we have recorded the biggest political victory in Ghana and we promise to always come around for such to govern Ghana well,” he said through the Asantehene’s linguist.

Present with Dr. Sarpong at the Akwasidae ceremony were Andy Okrah, a former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister and Kwasi Ofori Agyemang Boadi, a former MCE for Obuasi as well as Appiah Stadium, an ardent John Mahama admirer.

There were other NDC functionaries at the event which marked the end of all the Akwasidaes or Adaes on the Asante calendar.

On behalf of the Otumfuo, the linguist thanked the NDC Vice Chairperson for paying homage to the Asantehene and commended Dr Sarpong for presenting gifts to the King on the celebration of the last Akwasidae.

The King wished the NDC party and the leaders well. He also asked that they govern with care and compassion so that the citizenry will be beneficiaries of their stewardship.
