The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flag bearer, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has reiterated his stance of John Mahama not being accountable to Ghanaians should he be elected President in the upcoming December elections.
Dr. Bawumia has said he will be a better President than John Mahama due to the burden of accountability he has to fulfill after the end of his first tenure.
He explains the former President has only one term to serve if he is given the nod, therefore seeing no reason to perform well to seek another mandate.
But, because he will be seeking an 8-year period of two terms, he will come back to Ghanaians to renew his mandate, the reason he will be bound to perform better than the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking at a meeting with the clergy in the Northern Region Thursday, May 16, 2024, Dr. Bawumia said John Mahama will only be on a honeymoon if he is elected due to the lack of accountability for his stewardship.
“For me, because I am looking for an 8-year term, I have to work very hard in the first four years so that when I come back, you will say, oh yes, you did what you said you were going to do. We will give you another four years.
“But for my main opponent [John Dramani Mahama], when you give him four years, that is it. He doesn’t have to come back again. You won’t see him again, especially after he takes his honeymoon, you will not see him after four years.
“So you will get more accountability from me than from him,” he stated.
