The Mankranso District Police Command has embarked on an operation to clamp down on illegal mining activities in the Mpasaaso and Achiase areas of the Ashanti region.
The operation was carried in collaboration with the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly on Monday, June 2, 2025 in a special joint anti-galamsey operation.
In a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police headquarters and signed by its Head of Public Affairs Unit, DSP Godwin Ahianyo on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, is several illegal miners fled the scene upon sighting the operation team, leaving various items and equipment.
“A search and inspection of the mining sites led to the seizure of the following:
One (1) CAL 9mm pistol loaded with three (3) rounds of live ammunition; Four (4) pump-action guns; Twelve (12) live BB cartridges; Five (5) live AA cartridges and Five (5) excavators,” portions of the statement contained.
The District Assembly has impounded the five excavator machines at their premises as well as the firearms and ammunitions.
“The five (5) excavator machines have been impounded and are currently secured at the premises of the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly. The firearms and ammunition are being kept at the Mankranso District Police Command for further investigation,” portions of the statement added.
