The Ghana Police Service has said it is investigating the matter involving the supposed marriage of a 63-year-old Gborbu Wulomo and a 12-year-old girl at Nungua, a suburb of Accra.

Whilst the matter is being investigated, the peace enforcement agency has assured that the young girl and her mother are currently under police protection with care being provided by responsible state agencies.

The Police, in a statement on its X handle Tuesday, April 2, 2024, indicated that it “has identified and located the 12-year-old girl who is alleged to have been married to the 63-year-old Gborbu Wulomo in Nungua, Accra. The girl and her mother are currently under Police protection.”

“The Ghana Police Service is working with the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection and the Department of Social Welfare to provide her with the necessary support while the matter is being investigated,” it added.

The marriage between the two individuals has sparked public uproar with a serious crux between the law and tradition.

Whilst the GaDangme Council and the Gborbu temple at Nungua have both discounted claims of the union being conjugal, people are calling for the law to take its course.
