The atmosphere at the Jomoro Assembly Hall in Half Assini was that of grief and all-black attire during the confirmation of President John Mahama’s nominee for the Municipal Chief Executive position.
The Member of Parliament, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, the MCE nominee, Benedict Boadi, the National Democratic Congress Constituency executives, and almost everyone present, except the Electoral Commission (EC) officials and traditional leaders, were in black attire in solidarity with the two assembly members who died in a motor accident few days to the MCE confirmation.
The two who were involved in the accident were Francis Armoh of Alaboale Electoral Area and Ransford Nana Otuo Darko of Elubo West Electoral Area.
The two assembly members were on a motorbike heading home after they attended a meeting days before the confirmation of the MCE when their motorbike collided with a Toyota Rav 4 and died instantly.
They are expected to be buried on June 13, 2025, in their respective hometowns.
In attendance was the Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson and regional and national executives of the NDC.
In all, forty-six Assembly Members in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region confirmed the President’s nominee for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Benedict Boadi, without the two deceased assembly members.
Fifteen government appointees were sworn in to add up to thirty-four elected assembly members, the election of a Presiding Member and the confirmation of the MCE.
For the Presiding Member election, Mr. Francis Kennedy Yankey, polled 42 votes out of the 46 casted, representing 85.7% of the total number of assembly members.
In the history of Jomoro Municipality, the MCE, Benedict Boadi, became the only person to have secured 97.8% of the votes cast. The MCE, who happens to be the Assembly Member for the Nawule Electoral Area, polled 45 yes votes out of the 46 votes cast.
The MCE, Benedict Boadi, promised to boost agriculture and the service industry in the Municipality.
