Two goals by Medeama SC in each half were enough to sink Asante Kotoko by 2-1 in a friendly match to mark the commissioning of the newly-refurbished Tarkwa and Abosso (TnA) Sports Stadium.
Built at the cost of an estimated $16 million, the 10,400-capacity sports stadium will serve as the home grounds for Medeama SC.
Friday’s ceremony to commission the edifice, built by Goldfields Ghana, saw several dignitaries in attendance.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, was the Special Guest of Honour.
He demanded that the efforts by the current administration in the erection of sporting facilities need to be acknowledged as no government had done better than the Akufo-Addo-led administration in building of sports facilities.
The stadium was handed over to the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Tarkwa Municipal Assembly.
In the match to herald the commissioning, the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League champions opened the score through Nana Kofi Babil before the break.
But the visitors equalized through Bernard Somuah.
With a minute to go, Prosper Boakye stepped up to score for the home side to end the game 2-1 much to ecstasy in the stands.
