Media General’s Akoma 87.9 FM has received an award for promoting local food at the Ghana Tourism Authority awards night held at the Lancaster Hotel on September 19.
The Kumasi-based station won “Excellence in Promoting Local Cuisine” an award connected to the station’s annual Ghana Month series.
In March this year, Akoma 87.9 FM showcased some of the country’s extinct Local Cuisine during the Ashanti Cultural Festival held at the Center for National Culture, Kumasi.
The event brought together various tribes who displayed their culture and also showcased their traditional Cuisine.
A citation presented to the station acknowledged Akoma 87.9 FM as a station which has carved a niche for itself “By initiating programmes or events that meant solely to showcase traditional heritage, local cuisine and ethnic diversity in the region and Ghana as a whole,” part of the citation reads.
The mother brand, Media General also won “Tourism Oriented Media” Award on the night.
In a citation presented by the Ghana Tourism Authority Media General was commended for becoming “The backbone of several tourism activities in showing attributes/characteristics of proactiveness, promptness and professionalism.”
Northern Sector Bureau Chief and Acting Deputy Station Manager of Akoma FM, William Evans-Nkum on behalf of Management of Media General, thanked the Ghana Tourism Authority for the recognition and reaffirmed Media General’s commitment to the promotion of culture.
“Our is our pride and for years, we have been consistent in promoting our culture and heritage through our programmes: Tv3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful is 20 years now, Onua TV’s ‘Edwom Ahoofe’ and Akoma FM’s Ashanti Culture Fest and Fufu Party are all tailored to promote our culture and heritage.”
