One of the victors in the Ghana Journalists Association’s (GJA) national executive elections held on June 30, is Rebecca Ekpe.

She secured the position of Vice President of GJA with 60% of the votes and will be supporting President elect, Albert Dwumfour after they have been formally sworn in.

Until her election, Rebecca Ekpe was the Public Affairs Officer of the Association.

She is a journalist with specialty and interest in Women and Gender issues, politics, elections, democracy, youth and citizen’s engagement.

With decades of Journalism experience in writing articles, stories, researching, studying, and working on advocacy projects, Rebecca Ekpe has transitioned from storytelling to providing solutions and impacting lives in decision making on issues in Journalism, education, training and policy decisions.

Her goal is to promote inclusive societies and ensure that democracy, and for that matter, freedom of speech thrives.

During Ghana’s 2016 Presidential Election, Rebecca worked as a Media Analyst, closely with the Women’s Situation Room-(WSR) -a UNDP funded project and a peacebuilding mechanism, supporting Women’s Voices.

She has also taken up responsibilities in Elections in 2012, 2020 and 2024 supporting communication, information dissemination and peace building in Ghana.

Rebecca has served as Head/Editor-in- Chief of GBC Online News Platform, tasked with the responsibility of revitalizing content, working with a team that focuses on digital content, audience engagement and reach.

Awards & Recognitions:

Multiple GJA Award Winner. Received recognitions- award-winning broadcast journalist with honors in human rights reporting and public service journalism.

A strong advocate for media freedom, ethics, accountability and leadership inclusion consistently engages in public lectures and forums that influence national media development. Her career reflects dedication, excellence and a commitment to uplifting journalism standards in Ghana.

• University of North Texas, Denton Texas, USA (Master’s in Journalism & Information Technology).
