The Minority in Parliament has accused the Finance Minister of deceiving Ghanaians and manipulating the fiscal data to make it look like government achieved its half-year revenue target.
According to the Ranking Member on the Finance Committee in Parliament, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, the Finance Minister in his 2026 Budget Statement presented a different half-year revenue target from what was mentioned in his mid-year budget presentation.
At a press conference in Parliament to react to the mid-year budget presentation on Thursday, Dr. Amin Adam said government is short of its half-year revenue target by GHC2 billion.
“The minister is short of that target by GHC2 billion. He brought a wrong figure to Parliament and that is why we think that it is criminal, he is misinforming the people of Ghana, he is manipulating the data to look good,” the Minority claimed.
The Karaga MP explained that government has deliberately reduced the half-year revenue target figures by GHC2 billion to present a positive picture to Ghanaians that it achieved its revenue target for the first quarter.
“whereas the fact if you want go and see the 2026 Budget statement and look at half-year programme revenue and come and look at what he just presented today, you will see that he has reduced that revenue by GHC2 billion so that he can tell Ghanaians that he has achieved the target.
“Revenue is not coming, they are not doing well and not efficient,” he added.
