In a significant victory for women’s representation in local governance, Rosina Zeinab Abdul-Rahaman has been confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Nanton District in the Northern Region.

She is the only female nominee across the Northern, Savannah, and North East regions to be confirmed, making her appointment a landmark achievement.

Out of 28 eligible voters, including assembly members and government appointees, Madam Zeinab secured 27 votes, representing 89% of the votes from assembly members, signaling strong support and confidence from the local leadership and community.

Her confirmation also makes her the first woman ever to occupy the DCE position in Nanton district.

The confirmation ceremony, held in Nanton, drew a wide array of attendees, including traditional leaders, assembly members, and residents, many of whom celebrated the event as a win for inclusivity and community driven leadership.

Rosina Zeinab, known for her grassroots involvement and commitment to community development, expressed her heartfelt appreciation in her acceptance speech.

“I am deeply grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me. I will work with every individual regardless of political affiliation to move this district forward. Our development requires unity, and I am here to serve all,” she said.

She appealed for collaboration and support from assembly members, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders to ensure a successful tenure.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for the area, Mohammed Sherif Abdul-Khaliq, commended the assembly for endorsing the only female nominee among the presidential nominations in the region and encouraged them to rally behind her efforts to fulfill the mandate of the office.

“Women are equally capable of leading and delivering results. I am committed to supporting Rosina Zeinab and collaborating with her to achieve meaningful progress in Nanton,” the MP stated.

Observers and gender advocates have hailed her confirmation as a step toward greater gender balance in local politics, where female representation has historically been low.
