The Mpohor District Assembly is set to implement the government’s 24-hour market initiative at Adum Banso, a move aimed at eliminating roadside trading and improving safety within the district.
As part of the initiative, the Assembly plans to construct an ultra-modern market facility at Adum Banso, a community that has, for years, lacked a befitting market structure.
The absence of a proper market has forced traders to sell their goods along major roads, exposing them to serious safety risks while also causing traffic congestion.
Adum Banso, a predominantly farming community in the Mpohor District, is known for its vibrant commercial activities and serves as a trading hub for surrounding towns and villages.
Despite its economic importance, the community currently relies on a single, inadequate market shed to accommodate traders, particularly on Tuesdays, which has been designated as the official market day.
With the existing structure unable to host the growing number of traders, many are compelled to hawk along the main road, raising concerns about road safety for both traders and motorists.
To address the situation, the Mpohor District Assembly is proposing the construction of a modern, well-equipped market under the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
The project when completed will have Fire Station, Clinic, two cold stores, 97 lockable shops, 10 warehouses and other ancillary facilities to boost local economic activities.
During an inspection of a four-acre parcel of land earmarked for the project, Daniel Agbesi, speaking on behalf of the Member of Parliament for the area, Kofi Bentil, assured residents of the government’s commitment to resolving the long-standing challenges faced by traders.

He noted that the proposed market would not only improve trading conditions but also help revamp the local economy by creating jobs and extending business activities beyond traditional market hours.
The District Chief Executive, Sophia Aubyn, also reaffirmed the Assembly’s readiness to commence the project, announcing that a sod-cutting ceremony will soon be held to officially kick-start construction.
When completed, the Adum Banso ultra-modern market is expected to feature key ancillary facilities including a fire station, police post, banking hall, cold storage facilities, and other essential services to support a 24-hour trading environment.
The Chief of Adum Banso, Nana Brengpong III, has welcomed the initiative, commending the government for its intervention and pledging the full support and cooperation of the community to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
