The Mindset for Transformation Initiative (MTI), a civil society organization focused on promoting right thinking and action for a better Ghana, has called on citizens and duty bearers to not just think but act as they commemorate the June 3 disaster.

The Initiative believes the June 3 twin disaster where flood and fire combined to take lives and destroyed properties, leaving many with injuries, was caused partly by the negligence of duty bearers.

In a statement issued Tuesday, June 3, 2025, and signed by its Executive Director, Sidney Justin Tehoda, it said “beyond the natural forces of rainfall, the disaster was largely exacerbated by human actions —or inactions.”

It added that “Poor sanitation practices, indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drains, uncontrolled urban development, and inadequate planning all contributed to the scale of the catastrophe.”

With its call to action, the MTI admonished duty bearers, the media and civil society, to play their respective roles in ensuring such a disaster never recurs.
