Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal has said his choice to run for the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat is motivated by a strong sense of responsibility and service to his people rather than material or personal gain.

Speaking to journalists following the submission of his nomination forms at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Greater Accra Regional Office, Mr. Jamal affirmed that the party had properly received and approved all of his documents.

“I have officially presented my documents to the regional office. They have gone through them, accepted everything, and handed my copy back to me,” he said.

After serving the nation in a diplomatic role in Nigeria, the former Deputy Minister and former Member of Parliament is attempting to return to Parliament.

His choice has generated discussion among the public, with some wondering why he would abandon a prominent overseas assignment to return to home politics.

In response to the concerns, Mr. Jamal stated that humanism and public service are the main motivation behind his decision.

“My motivation is not materialistic. My motivation is humanism and service to people. I am motivated to come down and serve my people,” he stated.

Although he acknowledged the privilege of serving as High Commissioner, he stated that he believes his presence will be more useful in Ayawaso East and in Ghana’s national political landscape at the moment.

“Even though I am serving the nation out there, I believe there is a greater task on me to come and serve my people here. My presence here will be more useful to my people and to the nation,” he explained.
