John Dramani Mahama has chastised President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for putting up a statue of himself despite failing to complete any major infrastructure in his tenure.
According to Mahama, he is better placed to be erecting monuments of himself considering the numerous landmark projects he embarked on during his tenure as President.
President Akufo-Addo has unveiled a statue of himself at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi which has caused a lot of debates. Many believe the President should have allowed his successors honour him with a sculpture if his works are worth being immortalised.
However, the President has not even renovated the facility in question but has put up his sculpture there with few weeks remaining for him to exit office.
A section of Ghanaians believe President Akufo-Addo has performed poorly to the extent that he will not be remembered for anything, the reason he is the first president to put up his own statue few days from leaving office.
Speaking to constituents of Juaboso in the Western North region Thursday, November 14, 2024, John Mahama listed some of the places his monuments would have been placed if he was to follow Akufo-Addo’s steps.
“If I would be asked to erect my statue at each place I established a project, my statues would have been spread at the Tema Harbour, Kotoka Airport Terminal 3, University of Ghana Medical Centre, Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, Kasoa interchange but when you look at where he cited the statue, he has never completed any project there. The hospital they are building there has not been completed, the interchange has not been completed,” he stated.
