President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commiserated victims of the Kantamanto Market fire outbreak that destroyed over 100 shops in the national capital, Accra, on Thursday, January 02, 2024.

President Akufo-Addo says he is saddened by the incident that has affected the livelihoods of many of the traders who were affected by the fire.

The blaze, which started at dawn on Thursday, January 2, ravaged large sections of the market, affecting over 30,000 traders and destroying more than 7,000 shops.

Delivering his final State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 03, 2025, the President assured the victims that the government was going to team up with relevant state institutions to ascertain the cost of the damage and provide the needed support to bring the traders back on their feet.

“I want to put on record that I’m deeply saddened by the devastating fire at the Kantamanto market which took place yesterday and has left traders and their livelihoods in ruins.

“My thoughts and prayers are with those affected and I extend heartfelt sympathies to the hardworking traders that have lost their goods and investments. Government stands with you and we’ll work with relevant agencies to ascertain the full cost of the fire and to provide the needed support,” he assured.
