Commercial sex work also known as prostitution has become lucrative for many young ladies in Tamale. However, it is a canker authorities have to deal with regarding how minors, both foreigners and nationals are engaged in it.

This was disclosed by the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale Sule Salifu at a youth programme by the Tamale Youth Parliament over the week.

The MCE bemoaned the surge in commercial sex workers in the metropolis.

According to him, it has become a bane as attempts by authorities to deal with the situation has failed.

“Commercial sex work is now our biggest canker as most young girls engage in the trade which is worrying”

“Even more worrying is the fact that locals including minors have found the trade lucrative and are engaging in it” he added.

He urged landlords in Tamale to do proper background checks on persons especially females seeking to rent as most of them end up being prostitutes.

“We have to all support the fight and parents must first of all embed in the youth good morals “

Some residents who spoke with Onuaonline called for the repartiration of the Nigerian nationals engaged in the act to reduce its influence on the locals.

They also accused the police administration for allowing the trade to take place around their vicinity.
