The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged both Nations FC and Basake Holy Stars over the chaos that characterised their penultimate clash in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
Nations FC abandoned the game before the end of the first half after a second penalty infringement was called against them.
Their action was preceded by an on-field fracas between their players and match officials.
The club has since been docked three points and fined GH¢2,500.
Further action has been taken by the Disciplinary Committee against the club and the home side.
While Nations FC are accused of breaching Section 34(6)(d) and Section 16(1)(e) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019 and GFA Disciplinary Code 2019 respectively, Basake Holy Stars are accused of breaching Article 16(2)(h) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019.
“It is alleged that Nations FC failed to control and ensure that their players and technical team did not behave in an improper manner, which led to the abrupt end of the game after persistent protests against officiating decisions, unlawful entry onto the field of play, physical confrontations with match officials and police, and damage to stadium infrastructure,” read the charge.
Basake Holy Stars’ charge read: “It is alleged that the supporters of Basake Holy Stars behaved inappropriately during the said match by engaging in an altercation with a Nations FC official, obstructing the Nations FC media officer, and attempting to prevent some Nations FC supporters with valid tickets from accessing the stadium.”
Both clubs have been given up to Friday, June 13 to respond to the charges.
Meanwhile, some six officials of Nations FC have also been charged over the incident on Sunday, June 1.
They are Johnson Smith, Pius Atta Yeboah, Joseph Baah, Samuel Adjei Nti, Stephen Owusu Frimpong, and Isaac Ayebah.
Their charge comes in the wake of a charge against three players namely Rabin Ousmane Sanon, Kofi Mensah and Emmanuel Annor.
