Ghana Premier League side Nations FC have condemned incidents that led to their boycott of the Ghana Premier League match against Basake Holy Stars on Sunday.

After a second penalty call by the referee in the Matchday 33 clash at the CAM Park in Ampain, Nations FC players protested and consequently walked off the pitch.

After minutes of wait by officials and players of Basake Holy Stars, the match was called off.

But in a statement issued moments after the incident, the hitherto league leaders said: “The level of officiating was extremely poor and fell well below the expected standard.”

According to the statement issued on Sunday, June 1, the referee’s action compromised the “fairness” and “credibility” of the match.

The club also raised concerns about security at the CAM Park.

They indicated that President Divine Kyei Boadu and Chairman Dr Kwame Kyei were physically assaulted by home supporters.

“This hostile and violent conduct created an unsafe environment for our players, technical team and officials.”

The statement also observed that the number of security personnel expected at the venue fell short of the required number, leaving the team and its supporters vulnerable and exposed.

It revealed how the club’s fans were denied entry to the stadium despite bearing valid match tickets.

“Our accredited club videographer, who had full authorization from the Ghana Football Association, was prevented from recording the match by both supporters and officials of the home team, with the apparent support of the Match Commissioner.”

Nations FC want appropriate disciplinary and regulatory measures taken in the call for investigations.

“The safety, dignity and fairness owed to every club, official, and supporter must be upheld at all times.”
