The Central Regional Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Richard Kofi Asiedu has brushed off the credibility of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Professor Asiedu emphasized that Chairman Wontumi’s statements do not merit serious consideration in intellectual discussions. He remarked that Wontumi’s penchant for seeking attention from the NDC should not provoke reactions from party members.

“Chairman Wontumi is not a viable participant for intellectual discussions. His level of discourse does not align with mine,” Professor Asiedu stated during an interview with Nana Yaa Brefo and Isaac Ekow JB on Yen Nsempa, Onua FM.

He added, “When we are having intellectual discussions, Wontumi is not a viable participant. You don’t expect a Professor like me to engage in political discourse with him at that level.”

Professor Asiedu highlighted Wontumi’s persistent attempts to gain his attention, noting that despite Wontumi’s efforts, he remained focused on his political objectives, such as winning the Assin North elections.

The remarks from Professor Asiedu come in response to allegations made by Chairman Wontumi against the NDC’s recently unveiled running mate, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman. Wontumi questioned Opoku-Agyeman’s ethnicity and alleged a clandestine marriage between her and former President John Dramani Mahama.

“I challenge Nana Opoku-Agyeman that she isn’t from the Central Region. She is from the Northern Region,” Wontumi claimed, further alleging a secret marriage between Opoku-Agyeman and Mahama in 2012.

In response, Asiedu dismissed these allegations as baseless and aimed at tarnishing the NDC’s image ahead of the 2024 General Elections. He emphasized that such falsehoods only strengthen public support for the NDC, and its Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama.

“The NPP talks too much and speaks out of proportion,” Professor Asiedu remarked. “Today, John Dramani Mahama is seen as a saint because everyone knows that lies were spoken about him in the past.”
