The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament are accusing members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of equally acquiring state assets whilst in office.
The MPs say many officials who served under previous NDC administrations, are currently residing in places which hitherto belonged to the state.
It has therefore urged its members to boycott any invitation by the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee.
According to the MPs, members of the immediate past administration are being hunted by the ORAL for political purposes, despite legally acquiring properties for themselves.
Addressing the media in Parliament Wednesday, January 15, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, mentioned places in the capital where members of previous NDC administrations acquired lands.
“In any case, the NDC, their members have also acquired lands in this country. The Executive, Okudzeto Ablakwa and co, they live in the Cantonments, they live in the Airports, they live in the Tse-Addos, lands which were government lands, which they bought many years ago. The people of Ghana should not tolerate this ORAL which is out there to only persecute the former government officials,” he alleged.
Mr. Darko therefore asked those invited by the ORAL team not to honour the invite indicating it has no legal basis to probe anything graft-related for the state.
“Our advice to you from the Minority is to boycott any invitation from the ORAL team. We are not going to be part of it because we believe that there are constitutionally established bodies that investigates any so-called misdeeds for the government.
“What they (ORAL) are doing is to go about disturbing people, entering homes, seizing vehicles and more or less taking over lands from people who have genuinely purchased them,” Darko alleged.
He insisted properties owned by members of the previous administration were acquired legally.
“What the former government officials have done is to acquire properties that legally, they will acquire. No illegality has taken place,” he added.
