Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, has reiterated the resolve by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to petition the General Legal Council if President Akufo-Addo does not dismiss Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame.

This statement comes after a leaked phone conversation involving Dame, which raised serious concerns about his conduct.

The controversy stems from a tape released by the NDC on May 28, which allegedly features a conversation between Godfred Dame and a witness in the ambulance purchase case.

According to Dafeamekpor, the NDC is exploring all available options to address the situation.

“We are considering our options,” he stated. “We will petition the General Legal Council, and if that doesn’t work, we can, per the constitution, censure him as a Minister of State. Those are the options available to us,” he told host of Yen Nsempa Nana Yaa Brefo co-hosted by Isaac Ekow JB on Onua FM on May 29.

He emphasized that the NDC does not have the authority to directly remove Dame from office as the NDC is “not his appointor; we didn’t appoint him. We are only urging the President to fire him based on the information coming in from all sides,” Dafeamekpor added.

The tape contains the voice of Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the case, discussing matters with the Attorney-General about the first accused, Dr. Ato Forson.

The conversation reportedly covers meetings at the home of a Supreme Court Justice and issues regarding the ambulance contract.

The most alarming aspect of the tape is the suggestion that Dame was coaching the witness on how to frame his testimony to ensure Dr. Forson’s culpability. This revelation has led to widespread calls for accountability and transparency.

The NDC’s potential petition to the General Legal Council would seek to address these allegations formally.

The Council, which oversees legal practitioners in Ghana, has the authority to investigate and discipline lawyers who engage in professional misconduct.

Dafeamekpor’s comments highlight the gravity of the situation and the NDC’s commitment to pursuing the matter.

“We urge the President to take decisive action,” he concluded, emphasizing the need for integrity in the office of the Attorney General.
