Youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Damongo Constituency, alongside party elders and community members, have issued a three-day ultimatum to the party leadership to publish the names of shortlisted candidates for the position of West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive.
According to them, the vetting committee and regional executives should ensure fairness and transparency in the selection processes.
They are also accusing party leadership of sidelining constituency executives and failing to communicate progress on the selection process.
They alleged at a press conference on February 11 that there are rumors of the party ignoring the constituency’s recommendations in favor of three different names, insisting that, any candidate selected must be chosen based on merit, dedication, and long-term contributions to the party.
They warned that they will not accept the imposition of an outsider or someone unfamiliar with the party’s grassroots structure.
“We will not tolerate anyone chosen for us who does not know us. When we, who have fought for this party, go to them, they should not ask, who we are. We will resist any attempt to impose a stranger on us,” a spokesperson John Lipoyema Takorah stated.
“The three-day ultimatum starts from today, February 11, 2025. If our demands are not met by February 14, the party leadership should not blame us for any consequences that follow in the constituency,” he added.
The situation in Damongo remains tense, with party youth urging swift action to prevent division within the constituency. The coming days will determine whether the NDC leadership in the Savannah Region will heed their calls for transparency.
