The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC) is ongoing in all 16 regional capitals across the country today, Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
This follows a directive by the NDC leadership to carry out this protest in all the regional offices to present a petition to the Commission to register its displeasure over what it describes as a bloated register.
Following the voter register exhibition conducted by the EC, the NDC raised concerns of the integrity of the roll saying wrong transfers had been done with the register bloated in some constituencies.
The party therefore called for a forensic audit for its concerns to be addressed. The NDC says the discrepancies, including bloating of the register in some of the polling stations, is part of the EC’s attempts to rig the December 07 polls for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Chairman of the party, at a campaign rally, announced that the party was going to head for a protest today to register its concerns.
Pruning the electoral roll, according to the EC, was going to ensure a free and fair election.
Meanwhile, the EC has insisted that there is no need for a forensic audit as the issues the NDC is raising are normal occurrences that will be resolved before election day.
