Ghana’s Blazing Hands risks suspension from Africa following seeming difficulties in making it to Botswana in time for the 2023 African Netball Championship.

This was disclosed to Onua Sports by a player, Abena Brown-Amissah, on Maakye on Thursday, November 23.

The club has failed to secure visas for the trip to represent Ghana at the 13th edition and all efforts, according to the player, to get the Ministry of Youth and Sports to approve nearly $30,000 for the tournament have proven futile.

“Everything has not been approved [and] we are not in camp because the money for camping has not come,” Abena Brown-Amissah told Alfred Takyi Mensah on the morning show.

Ghana’s Blazing Hands were supposed to have been in Botswana by now as the tournament is scheduled to start on Tuesday, November 28 and end on Wednesday, December 6.

The player claims Ghana performs well in the sub-region and was seeking to rub shoulders with some of the continent’s powerhouses.

The team previously failed to make it to the 2017 edition in Uganda and the 2021 edition in Namibia for similar reasons.

Therefore, it will be the third time the team is missing a continental tournament if funds are not secured for the trip.

The tournament will be hosted at the University of Botswana Indoor Sports Arena in Gaborone.

The participating countries are hosts Botswana, original hosts Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Malawi.

The rest are ZImbabwe, Namibia and Burundi, who are making their debut.
