The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has officially sworn in Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu, the nominee for the Asante Mampong Paramount Stool, on Monday, January 19, 2026 at the Manhyia Palace.

He was formally gazetted as the Asante Mamponghene and assumed the stool name Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, becoming the new Paramount Chief of Asante Mampong, following the oath-taking ceremony.

During the swearing in ceremony, chiefs from the various divisions of the Asante Kingdom appealed to the new Mamponghene to uphold peace, unity, and cooperation as key pillars for the development of Asante Mampong Traditional Council.

They also warned him to remain firm against illegal mining activities on his land, a stance strongly upheld by his predecessor, the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.

The new Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, promised to walk in the footsteps of his predecessor and work tirelessly to promote development and stability in the traditional area.

He becomes the 17th occupant of the Asante Mampong Silver Stool, a position regarded as second-in-command within the Asante Kingdom in the absence of the Asantehene.

Our news team interacted with some Traditional rulers after the swearing-in ceremony. They expressed confidence in the new chief’s leadership.

“We want peace, unity, and development from him as he ascends the throne. We believe in him and we are ready to support him,” one of the queen mothers stated.

The kingmakers of Asante Mampong, together with the Mampong Queen Mother, officially presented Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu to the Asantehene as the nominated candidate for the Mampong throne on December 18, 2025.
