The newly inaugurated Board of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) led by its Chairman, Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, has affirmed its commitment to transform Ghana’s second-largest hospital into a world-class healthcare hub.

The pledge was made during a courtesy visit to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia Palace on May 26, where the Board sought royal support to address critical challenges and modernize the 70-year-old institution.

The delegation, including Acting CEO Dr. (Med) Paa Kwasi Baidoo, outlined urgent priorities; chief among them, completing the stalled Maternity and Children’s Block to ease severe congestion.

Additionally, he appealed for the Asantehene’s intervention in securing nearby military land for staff housing.

“Many specialists now reside far from the hospital after being displaced from Danyame, delaying emergency responses. Your Majesty’s support in resolving this would be invaluable,” he said.

His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II urged the Board to foster unity and leverage their expertise to support the Management. He stressed KATH’s pivotal role as the sole tertiary health facility in Ghana’s middle belt and called for collaborative efforts to enhance its operations.

“You must work together, optimize Internally Generated Funds, and judiciously manage resources while awaiting government and stakeholder support,” he advised.

The King also tasked Dr. Baidoo with overseeing the Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HeKAP), an initiative aimed at modernizing KATH’s inpatient facilities.

“As CEO, I expect you to take charge of HeKAP’s implementation, ensuring its successful execution for the benefit of patients,” Otumfuo directed.

The visit underscored the Board’s resolve to address longstanding challenges and elevate KATH’s standards. With royal backing and a commitment to collaboration, the new leadership is poised to drive significant improvements in Ghana’s healthcare landscape.
