A total of 2,154 NHIS registrations and membership renewals were recorded during the NHIS Festive Pulse activation at this year’s Asafotufiam Festival in Ada, as the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) brought its services closer to residents and festival patrons.
The exercise formed part of the NHIS Festive Pulse initiative, which uses major festivals as platforms to provide convenient access to NHIS services while engaging the public on the Scheme’s benefits, policies and new interventions.
Throughout the activation, the Festive Pulse team educated patrons on the NHIS benefit package, including the Free Primary Healthcare (FPHC) programme and the One-Time Attendance Code (OTAC).
The public was also encouraged to keep their memberships active by renewing expired memberships and updating their membership details.
The campaign extended beyond the festival grounds to the airwaves, with the team engaging listeners of Eagle FM on key NHIS reforms. Angela Asiedu, Ag. Deputy Director, Marketing and Branding, Corporate Affairs Directorate, explained that the Scheme is implementing measures to address challenges faced by members, including illegal charges at credentialed health facilities.
She highlighted OTAC as one of the measures being introduced to strengthen accountability and protect NHIS members when accessing healthcare services. The team also spoke about reforms aimed at ensuring the prompt payment of claims to credentialed healthcare providers to support improved service delivery.
At the grand durbar of the Asafotufiam Festival, Mr Emmanuel Kofi Alimo, NHIS Dangme East District Manager, encouraged residents and festival patrons to take advantage of the NHIS presence at the festival grounds to register and renew their memberships.
The Festive Pulse team also paid courtesy calls on the Member of Parliament for the Ada Constituency, Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, the District Chief Executive for Ada East, Hon. Kenneth Kabu Kanor, and the District Chief Executive for Ada West, Hon. Modjifatanihu Jerry John Foreigner Mills-Nkrumah. The leaders welcomed the initiative and encouraged residents and festival patrons to take advantage of the services available.
The 2,154 registrations and renewals recorded in Ada demonstrate the value of taking NHIS services directly to communities through major festivals. Beyond membership services, Festive Pulse creates opportunities for the NHIA to engage the public, provide education, address concerns and strengthen the NHIS brand.
The Ada activation forms part of the NHIS Festive Pulse campaign, which leverages major festivals across the country to bring NHIS services and public education closer to communities and visitors.
