Supporters of former Dome-Kwabenya MP Adwoa Safo gathered at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters in Accra on Monday, April 7, in anticipation of her appearance before the party’s disciplinary committee.

But the event took an unexpected turn when Safo discovered that the committee was not sitting.

Arriving at the Asylum Down office fully prepared to respond to a summons issued on, the former lawmaker was surprised to find that no formal hearing had been scheduled.

There was no committee sitting today,” she explained. “I had an engagement with a national party officer, but there was no hearing. I’m left wondering why I was served a summons on a Sunday for a meeting that didn’t take place. If there was a change of plans, why wasn’t I personally informed? Why wasn’t I contacted by phone? Some of you have my number directly.”

Safo’s appearance had been prompted by comments she made in the media regarding the NPP’s performance in the 2024 general elections—remarks the party viewed as a violation of internal communication protocols. Her summons formed part of a broader inquiry into the potential impact of her statements on the party’s image.

However, the absence of the disciplinary committee on the scheduled date left her visibly frustrated, calling into question the party’s communication and procedural transparency.

As a party, we need to take these matters more seriously,” she said. “I came here ready for the committee meeting, but now I find myself in a situation where there’s no hearing, no committee, and no explanation. This could have been handled much more effectively.”

Expressing concern over the public perception of her appearance before the disciplinary body, Safo questioned the logic behind summoning her without following through with proper procedure.

That is the purpose of the disciplinary committee. So, why ridicule me in public and then tell me that the committee isn’t even sitting?” she quizzed.

She emphasized how the optics of the situation could be misinterpreted by the public.

The message being sent to the public is that I have done something wrong, something untoward, and that I have come here to be disciplined,” she said.

Clearly disappointed, Safo added, “I’ve come here, but there is no one here, which suggests the case is either baseless or there is no finding on it. I thought this matter could have been handled better, which is why I came here today to see what was happening, only to find nothing has been done. Is this how I’m being treated? It’s disheartening.”

Despite her grievances, the former MP reaffirmed her willingness to cooperate with the party’s internal processes.

I will be available to appear before the party whenever I’m called upon,” she said.
