Running mate to the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has urged the traditional authority to contribute to the political discourse in the country.

He says it does not lie with any politician to tell the traditional leaders what to do when it comes to politics in the country.

Reemphasising the role of the traditional leaders in securing independence for the country, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate has indicated that it is the chiefs’ input in political matters that will propel the nation on the right trajectory.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, at a meeting with the Nungua Traditional Council in Accra, highlighted the significance of the voices of the traditional authority in shaping the political discourse of the country.

He, however, indicated that what will not be pleasing would be for the chiefs to wear political colours of either the NPP or NDC, but their voices, he added, should be amplified to ensure the politicians do not take their subjects for granted since it is their right.

He urged them to vote for the NPP and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the December polls.

“My campaign is different, I visit every royal house to tell them one thing. I tell them to help us, pray for us, guide us, counsel us, and give the direction to us. So, the Ghana that we’re developing is a Ghana that will be developed in freedom.”

“I implore every traditional leader, the elders that this game called politics, have you realised that the politicians have turned round to tell you not to do politics, if we didn’t do politics how did we come by independence? I’m not saying wear NPP colours or NDC colours.”

“I’m saying that whether it is NPP or NDC, it’s your right to tell us what is right. It is not our right to tell you not to be part of us, it is your right, to crave it. The people of Nungua should crave Nungua, it’s theirs. Everything God put on Nungua was for the development of Nungua,” he stated.
