The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed reports suggesting that a student has recently died at Ghana National College, clarifying that the incident being circulated happened as far back in 2018.
In a post on Facebook, the Service said no student had passed away at the school in the reported incident, urging the public to disregard claims seeking to revive the matter.
“No student has passed away at Ghana National College. This particular reported demise occurred in 2018,” the post said.
GES described the circulation of the report as a disingenuous attempt to reopen painful wounds for the bereaved family and tarnish the reputation of the teachers, housemistresses and the school.
It urged the public to treat the claims with caution and avoid spreading information that could cause further distress to those affected by the 2018 incident.
“The general public is therefore urged to disregard the disingenuous attempts by some faceless individuals to reopen the painful wounds of the bereaved family and unjustly besmirch the reputation of the teachers/house mistresses and the school,” the statement concluded.
GES’ clarification follows the circulation of claims about the death of a student, Ruby Teiko at Ghana National College, which the Service says relates to an incident that occurred eight years ago.
