The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has urged the public to disregard reports of audio or video evidence linking him to extortion.
He said he has carried out his parliamentary duties with dignity and without recklessness.
The Minority Leader stressed that he does not take the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for granted and appreciates the confidence reposed in him by the party’s leadership and elders.
“I am not a perfect guy, but I won’t be reckless. I know what I have to do,” he stated.
Responding to claims that individuals possess videos or audio recordings that could embarrass him, his family or the party, Mr Afenyo-Markin said there was no such material.
“Nobody has any video of me doing anything… Nobody has any audio of me doing anything to embarrass myself, my family and the party,” he said.
He maintained that the claims were part of political and social media manoeuvres, adding that as a politician, he understands that such allegations may arise.
Speaking to journalists when cultural troupes from Winneba visited his residence in Accra on August 31, 2026, Afenyo-Markin said he has resorted to legal action to clear his name.
He expressed optimism that the courts will help put the matter to rest.
