A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Nana Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah has levelled accusations against the parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya East on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, regarding her handling of gun registration documents.

According to Yeboah, the NDC candidate, Naa Koryoo, displayed significant negligence concerning the discrepancies in the spelling of her name on the gun registration documents provided by the police.

He criticized Koryoo for not taking immediate steps to rectify the errors.

“If someone writes your name and they miswrite it and you accept it, you have agreed to them changing your name,” Yeboah said on Onua FM, June 10, emphasizing the importance of accuracy in official documents.

According to Yeboah, it is mindboggling to witness a person make such a misstep after going through all the stages of the registration process. He argued that she should have demanded corrections from the police as soon as she noticed the misspellings.

“Why would she go through all the stages of scrutiny at the police and when they issue a receipt that does not tally with the right spelling of her name, she did nothing? She should have immediately opted to correct it or write a letter to the Ghana Police to address the issue that it was a mistake from the police,” Yeboah continued.

The accusation comes at the back of the chaotic incident at the EC office following a disagreement between observers of the two political parties last Sunday which led to the stabbing of one person.

Koryoo Okunor was arrested together with one Mustapha Mohammed and Abdul Aziz Musah.

They were reportedly apprehended while traveling in a Honda CRV vehicle with registration number GX 2044-19 near the Electoral Commission (EC) office at Ofaakor near Kasoa.

Even though the police did not immediately officially comment on the arrest, reports suggested the said gun was reportedly registered in her name, but indications were that, there was a discrepancy in the spelling of her name on the document indicating the gun belonged to her.

The Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, however, countered that claim saying, “the claim of a discrepancy in her first name is totally false.”
