Sarah Adwoa Safo, a three-time Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya in the Greater Accra region, has called on delegates of her party to vote massively for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming presidential primary.
Speaking during a campaign tour in her constituency on Sunday, December 14, 2025, Adwoa Safo urged delegates to reject Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bawumia’s main contender, citing his alleged disrespect towards women.
Adwoa Safo, who has two children with Kennedy Agyapong, stated that electing him would cost the New Patriotic P arty (NPP) a significant number of votes, particularly from women, due to his perceived negative attitude towards them.
She emphasised that Ken Agyapong’s behaviour towards women was a concern, highlighting an instance where he publicly disparaged her.
“You’re going to elect a candidate who insults women in his utterances, how would you expect women to vote?” she asked the gathering.
Adwoa Safo recounted Agyapong’s past comments about her, saying he had insulted her, calling her disrespectful, and claiming she had misused government funds.
She cautioned that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was waiting for the NPP to elect Ken Agyapong as its candidate so they could release videos of his alleged disrespect towards women, which would negatively impact the party’s chances.
“The videos are there, so if you don’t listen and vote accordingly, the NDC is only waiting for you to bring him so they release his videos of insulting women, including me, whom he has two children with,” she warned.
Adwoa Safo, who also served as Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament, questioned how Ken Agyapong would treat other women if he could disrespect her, the mother of his children, to such an extent.
She urged the delegates to consider the implications of their vote, emphasising that electing a candidate who disrespects women would harm the party’s prospects, particularly among female voters.
The former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection stressed that the NPP needed to choose a candidate who would garner support from women, stressing that Dr. Bawumia was that candidate to do that for the party.
