The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has given Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, seven days to produce full documentation covering the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.

The party is demanding charter flight invoices and contracts, payment vouchers, signed payment records and a complete list of the 1,964 evacuees with proof of payment against each name.

It is also seeking details of how the charter operator was selected under the Public Procurement Act and a breakdown of the reported GH¢16 million cost.

Communications Director of the NPP, Dennis Edward ‘Miracles’ Aboagye, at a press briefing on Sunday, October 18, 2026, also demanded from the Minister to clarify discrepancies concerning ASKY Airlines and two different versions of a letter identified as CC/7, including which version was submitted to the Auditor-General.

Aboagye said the NPP wants an internationally recognised firm to conduct an independent audit and make the terms of reference and findings public. Despite welcoming the Auditor-General’s review of the expenses, he said it should not be the only accountability measure.

He warned that failure to comply will compel the party to support the Minority in Parliament to file urgent questions to the Minister, formally petition the Auditor-General to prioritise the expenditure in its special audit, and pursue further remedies under the RTI Act.

“The 1,964 Ghanaians who fled South Africa suffered enough. They should not now become a headline figure behind which public money cannot be traced,” he said.

The NPP said the Minister, who while in opposition demanded accountability from successive governments, must be held to the same standard.
