A founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has given many reasons why the Dankwa-Dombo-Bussia tradition has now become a “criminal organisation.”
The countless misdeeds by members of the party during the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia leadership, which according Dr. Richard Baah Amoako, who is making the assertion, were not addressed, has made the NPP a criminal group.
He wants the party to be given a new name to help them reform and come back stronger to appeal to Ghanaians, rather than being in its current state.
According to him, those who destroyed the party are the ones at the forefront which will make any attempt to reform it a herculean task. He is suggesting that the party is rebranded with a new name just as it metamorphosed from UP to NPP.

Speaking with Roland Walker on TV3’s extended coverage of Ghana Decides 2024, the Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) said the likes of Wontumi and co should be disbanded from the NPP by forming a new one with the same political ideology but without some people who are currently leading it.
“Wontumi tells you there are one thousand ways of winning elections. Elections and what? What are the 999? So we should not have such people in the party to misbehave all the time. It becomes a criminal organisation. I have said it several times that it will fail. This is just the beginning,” he said Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
When asked why he describes the party as a criminal organisation, he said “lies upon lies. What has the President not done? PDS, all the criminality of financial malfeasance, the Finance Minister, it’s just too many I can’t even mention.”
“If you cast your mind not too far you’ll remember some. Who did they arrest? Have you seen NPP government arrest any NPP member? No! John Kumah died and it was alleged that he had US$30million in his account. What did the government do? Nothing! A good government would have frozen his account, investigate, where did he get the money from? Does Kumah print dollars in Ghana? No. Where did the dollars come from? 30 million it’s not a joke. Did anybody do anything? Seize it and investigate. If it’s his, give it back to him,” he stated.
The former NPP National Chairman aspirant alleged that leadership of the current NPP administration kept for themselves, monies printed by the Bank of Ghana and exchanged them for dollars when the money from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) arrived.
“They printed Ghana money and kept half of it and they divided it amongst themselves, when the IMF money came, they exchanged it from the Ghana cedis. That is what happens. Is it legal? And this is going on, nobody talks about it. That woman (Cecilian Abena Dapaah) who had money and the house girl stole her money, what happened?” he added.
