Martin Kpebu, Private Legal Practitioner, is advocating for Kennedy Agyapong to be elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He believes that Ken Agyapong has less baggage than Dr Bawumia.
“If I were an NPP delegate, I would choose Kennedy Agyapong over Dr Mahamudu Bawumia because it’s better to select someone who literally insults everybody in Ghana over someone who runs down the Ghanaian economy,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Satruday January 31.
Another Private legal practitioner, Kofi Benti,l however, said that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was the best person to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as flagbearer.
He says that among all the aspirants for the NPP flagbearer position, Dr Bawumia is the only person who has been tried and tested, hence is in a position to be elected again as flagbearer.
“Dr Bawumia is the best case scenario for the NPP at this time. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia remains the best option for the future of the NPP. It is on record that he was against many policies in the past, including the infamous E-Levy,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday January 31.
“After the scrutiny that he has gone through the last 20 years, the people standing for the elections stand nowhere close to Dr Bawumia,” he stressed.
Also commenting on the same show, Pollster Mussa Dankwah said that former Vice President Dr Mahamud Bawumia will win fourteen out of the sixteen regions in today’s flagbearer primaries.
He said the two regions he won’t win are the Central and Volta regions.
“Bawumia is winning 14 out of the 16 regions,” he said on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, January 31.
Mussa Dankwa also said that there will be no second round in today’s New Patriotic Party presidential primary.
He mentioned that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will win the polls today to become the flagbearer.
His comment came at a time when a Researcher and Financial Economist, Dr Evans Duah, said that there is a high possibility that the New Patriotic Party flagbearer election will enter the second round.
Dr Duah said this on the Key Points on TV3 Saturday, January 31.
“A runoff is possible,” he said.
Dr Duah, however, was quick to add that there is also a possibility of a first-round victory for Kennedy Agyapong if the numbers turn out to vote in the primary.
“If anyone is crossing the 50 plus one, it’s Kennedy Agyapong,” he said.
Also speaking on the same show, Mussa Dankwah, whose polls had projected a victory for Dr Bawumia, said there would be no second round.
Over 211,000 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are voting to elect their flagbearer for the December 7, 2028 presidential election.
The candidates vying for the position are; Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
Events leading to the contest on January 31 indicate that this election is crucial as the elected candidate will face off with a yet-to-be-known flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Although many polls have tipped Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to win, others have pointed to a Kennedy Agyapong victory. Yet Kwabena Agyepong, Yaw Osei Adutwum and Bryan Acheampong are counting on a miracle to upset the expected outcome.
That said, the real poll is underway. Thus, the close of day will definitely end the discussion, analysis and projections.
