Five electoral officers involved in overseeing the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries in Yendi have been interdicted by the Electoral Commission (EC).
According to sources close to the regional directorate of the Commission, the interdiction extends to five officers who were slated to assist in the election process, except municipal officers.
The parliamentary election in the Yendi constituency on Saturday January 27 was marred by allegations against an Electoral Commission official accused of tampering with the ballots of one of the candidates.
One of the officers of the Commission was accused of stuffing ballot papers of Abibata into his jacket.
A misunderstanding ensued leading to the tearing of ballot papers.
It took the intervention of security present to bring the situation under control.
The election materials, including ballot papers were moved to the Yendi municipal police station.
However, the EC officials refused to count and declare the results.
The party’s third Vice Chairman Alhaji Masawudu Osman declared Farouk Aliu Mahama as winner of the elections.
