The Tamale High Court has ordered the officials of the Electoral Commission in the West Mamprusi Municipality to produce the Ballot Box containing the votes cast in the 27th January 2024 NPP Walewale primary.
The court further ordered the Electoral Commission to submit the register used for the elections at the Registry of the Court by close of work tomorrow, 26th June 2024.
The court granted the motion filed by the Plaintiff Hajia Lariba Zuwera seeking an order on the Electoral Commission of the Walewale Constituency to produce the ballot box and the register.
This is the second relief the Court has granted the plaintiff in two days.
It would be recalled that on Monday June 24, the Court presided over by Justice Richard Kugyapaw, placed an injunction on Dr Mahama Tia Kabiru restraining him from holding himself as the parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Walewale Constituency in the North East Region.
The ruling follows a challenge to the election results by the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hajia Lariba Zuweratu.
Dr. Abudu Kabiru was declared winner by the Electoral Commission in Walewale after he beat Hajia Lariba Abudu in the January 27 parliamentary primary of the NPP after securing 145 to emerge winner.
An embattled Hajia Lariba Abudu, filed a case at the Tamale High Court disputing the election result.
The NPP in their bid to resolve the matter, requested for an out of court settlement.
The Tamale High Court presided over by His Lordship, Justice Richard Kogyapwah, on Wednesday (27th March, 2024) granted the party’s plea to settle the stalemate out of court for a period of six weeks.
Bawumia to blame?
The NPP North East Regional Chairman of Council of Elders of the NPP, Professor Naa Nabila Sulemana has blamed the Vice President and flagbearer of the party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his inability to resolve the internal wrangling of the party in Walewale Constituency.
According to Sulemana, the Dr Bawumia could talk to the former MP, who is his sister.
