National Youth Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Salam Mustapha, has issued an unqualified apology to Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana (UG), Prof. Ransford Gyampo after recent defamatory allegations against the Senior Lecturer.
The said defamatory comments against Professor Gyampo was made on the 28th of October 2024 when the NPP National Youth Organizer alleged that he was using the UTAG strike over Galamsey activities as a weapon to disenfranchise students and give the National Democratic Congress an undue advantage over the NPP in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Salam Mustapha further alleged that Prof. Gyampo was using his position as a lecturer to gain sexual favours from students in exchange for good grades.
Lawyers for Professor Ransford Gyampo, subsequently issued a strong response to the unfounded allegation and demanded an apology within 24 hours or they take legal action against Salam Mustapha.
In a statement, Salam Mustapha noted that the apology and retraction are in line with demands made by Prof. Gyampo’s lawyers.
“I am causing this retraction and apology to be published and be given the same prominence by all the media outlets that carried the contents of my Press Statement,” he wrote.
He added that he had no evidence to back his claims, hence the need to render an apology to the learned Professor.
“Given that I have no evidence to back the allegations I made against Prof. Gyampo, I hereby retract and render an unqualified apology to him,” he stated.
