The Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has criticized the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) stance on President Mahama’s Supreme Court nominations, accusing them of hypocrisy and double standards.
According to Gyamfi, the NPP’s position on the nomination of Justice Senyo Dzamefe to the Supreme Court lacks merit, and is a politically motivated inconsistency in handling judicial matters.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews Saturday, May 3, 2025, Sammy Gyamfi said the judge elevated to the apex court meets the qualifications and couldn’t fathom why the NPP is making a fuss over it.
“The problem with the NPP is the duplicity and the hypocrisy they continue to display. That is what I find nauseating in all these discussions,” he said.
Comparing Justice Dzamefe’s appointment to others, he explained that this nomination was not fast-tracked, unlike others, and highlighted the judge’s credentials and decades of distinguished service in the judiciary.
“Justice Senyo Dzamefe served as a State Attorney from 1984 to 1987, was a member of the Regional Tribunal from 1989 to 1996, Circuit Court Judge from 1996 to 2000, High Court Judge from 2000 to 2010, and Court of Appeal Judge from 2010 to 2025,” Gyamfi pointed out.
He explained further that Justice Dzamefe’s experience was evident and warranted the promotion, but was overlooked by the erstwhile NPP administration, which instead promoted judges 20 years his junior to the Supreme Court.
“And yet these same NPP people are saying that President Mahama has committed haram, a sacrilege, for appointing him.
“We all know you refused to promote these fine legal minds to the Supreme Court and instead elevated their juniors by as many as 20 years purely for cheap political gains,” he averred.
The GoldBod Acting CEO further expressed that the President’s recent appointments will help restore credibility to Ghana’s judiciary.
“What we are doing now is correcting the wrongs of the past. We are delivering justice to victims of injustice.
“You can burn the sea if you don’t like it. President Mahama will not be remote-controlled by you,” he stated.
